Paul Midcalf has been DJing since the age of 16. Originally playing hardcore and happy hardcore and Drum and Bass. His spare time revolved around music and the scene that surrounded it, whether he was DJing in his bedroom, playing at the various parties or dancing like madman in a crowded warehouse.
In 1995 he agreed to go to a House Club one Friday night with a group of friends. Not expecting to have a good time Paul found himself again dancing his socks off but getting a totally different vibe and 5 hours later walked out of the club determined that House music and its scene was where he wanted to be. The following months were spent gathering as much house music as possible. After 6 months Paul was offered a residency on Thursday nights at a local nightclub and bar and after a month was asked to move to Fridays and Saturdays as well to play alongside the clubs other DJ. The residency continued for a further 9 years with Paul playing in various local bars and parties and a stint on a local pirate radio station. In October 2007 Paul made the choice to take time out with a view to hosting a monthly night instead. Having played alongside Scott Franey on many occasions Paul knew that they worked well together and so 3house was born and in November 2007 their first 3house night packed out its venue and has since quickly become a monthly night associated with great music. Scott started his Dj career in 1990 when he used to host parties at nightspots in and around Hertfordshire playing house and happy hardcore. He then found himself with various residencies further a field his favourite being a night called Erotica at a venue called Grange Farm in Loughton Essex where he would team up with the likes of 2 bad mice, slipmatt, and Adrian H. He was also involved in playing at a lot of raves that took place round the UK in the early 90’s and had built up quite a following. He had a prime time Saturday show on Radio station Pulse FM alongside Slipmatt, Adrian H and the Criminal. As time went on his musical taste began to revolve and he started playing less hardcore and more House and Garage and this change saw a whole new beginning for Scott on London’s club scene. His bookings would take him to clubs such as Bagley’s and Hanover Grand playing alongside some of the biggest names in the business. In 1996 Scott set up the label Magnetic Productions and he was partnered in that by another DJ Justin Roberts .The label had several releases which were being licensed all over the world but it still maintained that underground house vibe. His biggest track to date was signed over to Gusto Records the home of Pure tones Addicted to bass and was entitled ‘Let It Go’ By Zoom who was Joel Edwards/Scott Franey/Matti Schwartz. For the last 2 years Scott has been producing with Danny Keith and they are known as Project Orange and are signed to DTPM. One of their most recent releases ‘The Game’ was one of the labels biggest sellers and a follow up single is on the way. In 2005 Scott played his first festival which was the V2005 at Chelmsford where he played in the exclusive Virgin Mobile Louder Lounge and enjoyed the experience of playing to a festival crowd and was lucky enough to be called back every year since. 3house is the brainchild/baby of Scott Franey & Paul Midcalf. The idea and concept was to put on monthly nights at various locations . They specialise in playing house (hence the name of course) , whether its deep house, soulful, funky or electro the 3house name has become associated with fine beats and music that you just have to dance to. ![]() They are partners and they have a baby together... NO!! They are not a gay couple that adopted from Africa! They are business partners and their baby is called 3HOUSE! These boys take their music very serious, from producing to mixing, signing up with big names in the industry and hosting their radio show, SUNDAY SESSION. Paul is also one of the managers at PURE. Looking at the PURE INTERVIEW it was clear to us who is the quiet one and who can’t stop yapping! Halfway through the interview, the one didn’t even answer the questions anymore... But although the one is a loud mouth and the other is quiet, we love them both equally at PURE, so read more about the boys in the PURE INTERVIEW and see if you can spot who’s the quiet one! So who is your Favourite DJ/Artist/Producer? Scott:Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim Paul: Favourite DJs (apart from myself and Scott)...would have to be, Kid Creme & Junior Jack, Chris Montana, Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Daft Punk, Full Intention (legends) and a few more. There are lots of remixers out there but the bass lines of Kind Creme and Junior Jack along with anything by Bobby Blanco or Moto wins my vote. They just know how to do the funkiest of bass lines and everyone knows its all about the bass. Which Club is you Favourite Club? Scott: All 3House events / Sintilatte Parties Paul: Defected @The Ministry, We Love Space Sundays @ Space Ibiza, Parties at The Mews (my house) and of course the 3house events....i am sure you will hear about them...brilliant ! Where do you Live? Scott: London Paul: Born in Hertford, Hertfordshire then moved down the road to Ware which has some wicked pubs and bars and places to eat.....mmmmm. Where is your Favourite Holiday destination? Scott: Marbella, Spain Paul: Ibiza....of course......missed this year and felt like my arm had been chopped off. What is your star sign Scott: Gemini Paul: Capricorn...stubborn goat What is your Favourite Food? Scott: Sushi Paul: Steak, Sunday Roasts, Salads...cheeses and anything savoury What is your Favourite Drink? Paul: Anything with a trace of booze...except whisky or Red Wine after being rushed to Chase Farm Hospital N.London due to passing out in a taxi. What is your favourite Colour? Paul: Shades of Blue (my eyes are blue) What do you do when you are not mixing? Scott: Making music in the Studio Paul: Facebooking, I cant help myself, I have to keep the 3house - welove3house group up to date, our website http://www.welove3house.com , I also do graphic design and the odd website for anyone who asks...oh and hunting down new music. What is your Top Tip for new DJ’s? Scott: Keep Going! Paul: Embrace new technology. If I can be brutal...forget vinyl its dead. It weighs to much and is generally a nightmare to take about. I have about 5000 records sitting doing nothing. You can do so much more with MP3s, edit, warp add effects, create your own remixes etc. People that say CDs have no warmth usually play in shitty night clubs. And my last tip.....if you see me out DJing then forget my moody appearance, I am a very nice chap really, so come over and say hello and I might buy you a drink. If you wish to get in contact with 3HOUSE or book them, simply click on one of the options below. You may either book this DJ’s to play at an event or book them virtually.
