I’m an original Londoner, and my clubbing days started out during the Acid house days in the 90s. I put lot into clubbing at one time, and the original Trade at Turnmills was at one time the place to be (until it closed L ).
After taking the decision in 2003 to go behind the decks instead of dancing in front of them, I made a good name for myself in Brighton between 2004-2006 before I took a sabbatical and moved to suburban East Sussex 3 years ago which I love. I have been in & out of Brighton for nearly 20 years, and have seen a lot of unfortunate changes. The gay scene in particular has been in real decline for the last two years, partially because of the recession, they are now down to one club night, only a few pubs and also only one gay club. As a result I stopped DJ-ing publicly in 2009, taking away two nominations for best Male do for a local website event. I continue my mixes at home, and 2010 is looking better now J But I have to say that to an extent I feel I like I am starting again. As well as DJ-ing, I also write a fair bit, articles and columns, so I keep busy. I kind of believe a professional DJ plays what is required by the promoter at that time, and music should not discriminate against age groups. I only play for all ages and wont compromise that. You do always have to find a balance, so therefore you are learning all the time. My play style is retro, tribal, some vocal house, some commercial electro and trance. It has to be funky or I wont play it. Luckily the people I have worked for directly have been great and have looked after me. That side of it is fine and I’m grateful to those in the past who have expressed an interest. But I go at my own pace and choose what I do and where I work carefully these days. For many reasons I have found some areas of clubbing to be a battlefield. I’m not interested in that. Perhaps some of it is due to the economic downturn, but I have learnt that if you dwell, you don’t get anywhere. Dj-ing has taken me around places worked in and around the private party scene around London, Ibiza, Madrid, Amsterdam, & Malta Pride. I love working abroad, and also internet radio. Its nice to explore new avenues again king_j20@sky.com http://mrjustink.podomatic.com http://soundcloud.com/mr-king-djuk ![]() He feels that the clubbing world, especially in the gay community is not what it use to be... This DJ is going to get the clubbing world back on track with his super funky tunes, because if it aint funky... he wont play it! In his spare time he do voice over work. He likes Pasta and BLUE! Read more about MR KING in the PURE INTERVIEW. So who is your Favourite DJ/Artist/Producer? Because of my previous connections with Brighton, I have to say Fat Boy Slim. Mainly because of what he has done in Brighton and for the tourism industry. Noone can ever forget THAT first concert he gave on the beach which caused the city to go into gridlock. My best night EVER in the city. Producers I admire include Digital Dogs, Bimbo Jones, David Guetta, and in particular lesser known producers. Sometimes they are the best ones. Anyone who can take an otherwise bland chart track and funk it up has my vote Which Club is you Favourite Club? Unfortunately my favourite clubs have gone now :-( But i used to love the Hacienda, Essential, Trade (at Turnmills) and clubs in Europe. If its friendly and no attitude it has my vote. Where do you Live? Im a Londoner, but currently live in East Sussex. Where is your Favourite Holiday destination? Ibiza. (but i had my final Ibiza fling last year).
